While American Idol does have what is called “The Jury,” the actual jury members are randomly selected by computer. This method allows for more randomness than a traditional jury. Additionally, the producers have no idea why any member of the jury is selected, or why they’re not selected for a different season. As a fan of the program, I appreciate this method, but it makes it nearly impossible for me as a spectator to have much hope in the future of the contestants.
There are also no longer any “celebrity judges” on the show. Instead, we have judges who have not met the contestants and therefore do not share the same preferences in the contestants they do.
The Process For Selecting Judges
While the jury is the only remaining element of American Idol, with the final two in a row, the judges aren’t even part of the equation. There’s no guarantee they’ll even show up to the final two rounds of auditions, let alone join up to work on American Idol together.
A Year by Year Affair
If American Idol’s future is up in the air, so too is our hope for the contestant who will eventually take up the mantle. As the show is set up in a way that’s already seen in previous seasons, the last couple of contestants are going to be the most familiar with the show from the start.
If we find out that next year’s contestants were chosen purely on talent and had no special ability or talent to speak of, I think fans will not be too thrilled. And I say that in the best possible way. It would be a missed opportunity to replace one of the most beloved reality programs of the 20th century with a new version, and with an almost completely new group of contestants who are just as unknown.
Can It Ever Regain Its Prominence Among TV Fans?
American Idol has been replaced by a slew of other shows that are more than capable of topping it in popularity or ratings. The fact that it was once an American TV phenomenon proves that the talent, skill and hard work that is necessary to compete with such show are very important, even if the show doesn’t necessarily need some help from the talent.
American Idol was a successful program in the 90’s thanks to its talent and producers. With the advent of so many other reality tv shows of all varieties, all competing to create something that is more popular than the previous reality shows, it’s safe to say that it’s time to say goodbye to American Idol.
Trent Harmon is Doing What Now?
It didn’t take long for the most recent American Idol winner, Trent Harmon, to fall out of the spotlight. After an impressive performance in the Season 15 Finale he has just one album released, but is anyone listening? Apart from radio silence, it appears Harmon is also selling incense waterfalls for a living too.
Will It Ever Return?
The reality television phenomenon is currently in the midst of some tough times. The success of American Idol has been marred by accusations of racial discrimination, sexual harassment, and even racism. This led to some high-profile exits from the show in its second season, including Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, Matt McConkey, and Darrell Hammond.
If you want to relive some of the good old days from American Idol’s peak, watch this video of the show’s contestants singing their favorite songs. In addition to having the biggest voices in show biz today, these performers were some of the top singers in the country at the time the show was televised.
